Call for Proposals JICPB CUBE GALLERY 2007-2008 Application details for commission and exhibition [BACKROUND] The JICPB Cube Gallery is an international collaboration between five independent art spaces in 5 different countries France, Japan, Egypt, Scotland and Denmark. Jarnac in France, Ichinomiya in Japan, Cairo in Egypt, Portree in Scotland, Bｿvlingbjerg in Denmark. Established in May, 2003, as a result of an exchange between artists in Ichinomiya (Japan) and Bｿvlingbjerg (Denmark), the Cube Gallery expanded throughout the following years of 2004 and 2005 to include venues in Jarnac (France) and Portree (Scotland). Starting from May 2007, Egypt will be part of this international exchange project; Cairo's Cube gallery will be inaugurated on the 10 th of May in Artellewa Space for Contemporary Arts. [IDEA] The catalyst for this project is to provide an opportunity to show new exciting developments in the contemporary practice of artists from different countries, and to raise and develop the awareness of contemporary art in culturally deprived locations throughout the world. [CONCEPT] The curatorial brief insists that the work produced remains new and ex-perimental. Each venue sites an identical glass cube 80cm, placed on a 100cm plinth whereby the artists create a specific work for the gallery space. This work is exhibited at all five galleries under the same conditions and becomes part of a network, to develop a forum for dialogue, discussion and exchanges among artists. In just two years the Cube Gallery has created an exciting reputation that shows new innovative challenging work. The forum has been able to express a raised interest among several artist groups in different countries, and it is foreseeable to imagine the Cube Gallery expanding in the future using this concept. May 2007 will therefore see a selection of 3 French, 3 Japanese, 3 Scottish, 3 Danish and 3 Egyptian artists exhibiting at each respective gallery for a period of one month. As the JICPB Cube Gallery is a unique space and the work generated for it will be site specific, it offers a fantastic opportunity for an artist to develop a new concept that may not be indicative of their current work. Artellewa Space for Contemporary Arts is particularly keen to develop a network of artists to fulfill aspirations of international activity at the art space, as well as creating opportunities for Egyptian artists to make new work and exhibit abroad. Therefore a call for proposals is launched, artists are asked to take part and use this chance to send their art peace through the world to be shown in different art spaces in different countries on different continents.
